Hello, I'm Alecia Barrett, the founder and owner of A. Barrett Academy. With a career spanning back to 2007, I have dedicated my professional life to the field of developmental disabilities.

My journey began in residential services before transitioning to outpatient care through a local mental health agency. During this time, I gained invaluable insights into the unique needs of families and children that often go unaddressed. I witnessed the challenges families faced when their children struggled to engage in and tolerate personal care tasks. These difficulties manifested as meltdowns, physical aggression, incomplete personal care routines, and heightened non-compliance throughout the day. I also recognized the toll this took on parents, who were not only dealing with their children's challenges but also grappling with frustration during personal care routines.

Throughout my career, I've taken on various roles, including staff supervision, program organization, overseeing services for individuals, and providing vital parent and staff training. Notably, I spearheaded the development of a new program within the local mental health agency, catering to 15 children aged 2-5 diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Through this experience, I've had the privilege of working closely with numerous families and children, witnessing their remarkable progress as we enhanced their skills and reduced challenging behaviors.

One of the core principles that guide my work is the belief in building individuals' and families' abilities to the point where my intervention is no longer necessary. It's my mission to foster growth and independence, ultimately empowering individuals and their families to thrive.

Thank you for visiting A. Barrett Academy, where we're dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.
